Projected Title: Seasons of the Forest
Format: Illustrated Forest Animal Children’s Book
Medium: Traditional Watercolor and Ink
Target Audience: Ages 5–10
Project Description:
Seasons of the Forest is an illustrated children’s book made up of four connected stories. Each tale takes place in the same richly imagined woodland. One story blooms in Spring, another unfolds in Summer, then Autumn, and finally Winter. Together, they create a sense of community and continuity. The main characters change from story to story, but some animal friends reappear in the background. This gives young readers the joy of spotting familiar faces again and again.
Each story is a gentle, character-driven fable. These tales explore curiosity, cooperation, courage, and change. They show how woodland animals help each other and grow through each season. The visual style blends the realism of natural wildlife with a touch of human-like charm. For example, the animals keep true-to-life forms, but may wear a simple scarf, a tiny pair of spectacles, or opera glasses. These little details hint at personality. However, they never overpower the wild beauty of the animals themselves.
Spring Illumination
Watercolor Pen & Ink on Paper
In this forest animal children’s book, each new season begins with a striking visual introduction. A full-page, Escher-inspired tessellation represents the spirit of Spring, Summer, Autumn, or Winter. These watercolor and ink artworks show patterns of animals and plants woven together. They act as symbolic gateways into each tale. The colors, shapes, and repeating forms create a sense of movement and wonder. As a result, children can feel the shift from one season to the next.
Seasons of the Forest will be a book for readers who love nature, gentle stories, and beautiful artwork. It invites children to pause, look closer, and enjoy the hidden connections that run through the forest all year long.
