M. Chad Randall
M. Chad Randall is a children’s book illustrator working primarily in watercolor and pen-and-ink. His work blends traditional craftsmanship with cinematic light and atmosphere, creating emotionally resonant illustrations with a timeless, story-driven quality.
Drawn to fairy tales, legends, and narrative traditions that endure across generations, Chad’s illustrations emphasize emotional clarity, expressive characters, and visual storytelling designed to support longer narrative projects and full book-length arcs.
My Illustration Journey
Chad’s path to illustration has been richly layered. He studied anthropology and art at the University of Utah, where he developed a deep interest in how stories shape culture, memory, and identity. That foundation continues to inform his work today, grounding his illustrations in meaning as well as craft.
He is a published illustrator and a proud member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). Before returning fully to illustration, Chad spent nearly three decades in corporate sales and marketing, serving as Vice President of Marketing for multiple companies. That experience sharpened his understanding of communication, audience, and visual messaging—skills that now strengthen his approach to storytelling and book collaboration.
Today, Chad lives and works in Orange, Texas, where he teaches middle school art and continues to illustrate with the same curiosity that first drew him to storybooks. Whether painting a quiet forest, a gathering of animal characters, or a moment of wonder between children, his goal remains the same: to create images that invite readers to linger, discover, and feel.
